Helping bring clarity to a growing product ecosystem, shaping faster coaching workflows across desktop software, mobile experiences, and video tools for basketball organizations, including teams across the NBA and WNBA. Brand and marketing tools extended that system into FastModel’s broader public presence.

FastScout was already a trusted platform for professional basketball organizations, including teams across the NBA and WNBA. As the product grew, so did the range of workflows it needed to carry — from scouting and game preparation to video, reporting, and team communication.

That growth created a new design challenge. Features had been added to meet real customer needs, but the experience needed a clearer system to help coaches move quickly, understand where to go next, and complete high-pressure tasks with less friction.

The opportunity was to bring structure to a mature product ecosystem, making powerful tools easier to navigate, faster to use, and better aligned with the pace of coaching environments.

A deep heuristic evaluation mapped the structure of the existing software, tracing how key workflows were organized, where decisions had accumulated over time, and which parts of the experience carried the most cognitive weight. That evaluation created a shared baseline before moving into broader discovery.

Stakeholder sessions helped separate immediate friction from larger product ambitions. The goal was to identify what felt most urgent, and to understand how those challenges related to upcoming priorities and long-term growth across the FastModel ecosystem.

Interviews with the support team, paired with shadowed coach support calls, revealed where coaches most often needed guidance and how much practical product knowledge lived in the conversations around the software.

Because FastScout lived inside the heart of professional basketball, research also extended beyond the screen. We studied how players and coaches prepared for games, how scouting materials were reviewed, how information fit into training and travel schedules, and how much preparation had to happen around the daily demands of a professional athlete’s life.

The final layer of discovery looked outward. Benchmarking ranged from game-planning tools to desktop publishing, video sharing, file storage, organization, and task management software. Together, those references helped clarify what FastScout needed to do as both a basketball product and a working environment for complex preparation.

The redesign focused on bringing clearer structure to the core scouting experience. Rather than continuing to treat each feature as an isolated request, the system was reorganized around the way coaches needed to prepare, build, edit, and share scouting information.

Common tasks were given clearer paths, including access to team data, report templates, player information, video references, and printable scouting reports. The goal was to reduce the amount of interpretation required inside the product, allowing coaches to move through complex information more quickly and with greater confidence.

Early sketches, workflow maps, and interface studies helped translate the diagnosis into a more usable product structure. The resulting direction created a clearer foundation for the desktop scouting platform while also supporting connected mobile and video-based workflows as the broader FastModel ecosystem continued to evolve.
